Changing tempo of a SMF

Greetings. I'm relatively new to Musescore and having an issue changing the tempo of SMF.

FWIW I'm using an SMF from a free MIDI song site and my overall goal is to create some drum only SMFs to use at rehearsals when a drummer can't make it. The files will be played on a Mac using a program with a MIDI file player (BandHelper) and a sound font.

The original SMF of a piece had a tempo 106. I've opened it with MS4 and first tried just changing the score printed tempo indication from 106 to 94 and then exported that as a SMF (with only the drum track I want) but the resulting SMF still plays at 106. After doing a search and finding a post in Sound Design Stack Exchange I also tried detaching the play palette and adjusted the tempo slider so it showed 95 (closest option to the desired 94) but the exported SMF now plays at 118!? (Presumably the inverse of reduction made with the slider)

So basically what I'm looking for is, starting with a SMF and using MS4, how to change it's tempo as desired and have a new SMF with the new tempo. If someone can point out where I'm going wrong it'd be appreciated.

Thanks
