Installation error when installing Musescore 4.2.1

• Apr 28, 2024 - 23:28

The program won't install. I get this error (see attachment). I am on a Win10 system. I am trying to install OVER an existing version, not on the C-drive. I open the existing version and it asks me if I want to install a newer version, so I say "YES". While installing it says I need to end the current program, which I do. After that, it runs for a few seconds, then this error message pops up.

It looks like a permissions problem (assuming there are no file locks i.e. you don't have any other apps open at the same time - best way to install). Modifying 'Group Permissions' and the 'User Installation' settings may help (tonne of info about it on the net).

I have an update. The new version 4.3 came out. So I wanted to install it. I knew it wouldn't install from inside the program, so I downloaded it from the website. When I tried to install it, I got that same error. I think I know what is going on. I am trying to install to a non-C drive. When I install it to my C-drive, it works. When I made the comment a few days ago about getting it to install, I didn't realize it installed to my C-drive.
It doesn't like being installed to a non-C drive. It is not a permission thingy, I install programs to my non-C drive all the time. It is where I install ALL my programs.

I have another update. I finally figured it out. It is my firewall. I turned the firewall off when I installed, but apparently it doesn't matter. I had to actually put in a firewall exception for the installation file. After doing that, it installed to my non-C drive fine.
