Remove unwanted image from MuseScore 4 file

• Apr 27, 2024 - 13:15

I put an image into an MU4 file linked to a note on a stave to help me to enter the score. Now it seems to have locked, and I can't move it or remove it.

I have done this kind of thing before with earlier versions - but this is really a bit of a nuisance.

I don't really want to be forced to have to create a new score and copy the sections which do work across.

That's not quite so simple in the latest version of MacOS - I think, as MacOS embeds compress and decompress into the system.

I have done this kind of thing before.

The nuisance this time is that the only "good" version of the file I have is the one with the embedded image.
Other versions have been lost because of the very "iffy" nature of the way files get saved - or quite often - not saved. Things have got worse since the feature to do live updates from the MS dot com web site has been put in.

Sadly I tried downloading yet another free unzipper - PeaZip - but couldn't quite figure out how to do the operations needed to get rid of the image, so in the end it seemed easiest to just open up the one copy remaining with the notes filled in, and paste those into a new empty score. A few more edits and it's almost back to what I wanted in the first place.

Not being able to clear out image files which get stuck is a real pain in MU4.

Thanks for the help and suggestions though.

What OS? What version of MuseScore 4?

What type of image? Attached to what?

I know this doesn't help you solve your problem but I just added PNG images to a MS 4.2.1 score, one attached to Vertical frame and one attached to a note. Both deleted without issue within the session. next I quit and reopened and then reopened MuseScore 4 and the score. I was able to delete both images.
