Musescore 4.3.0 doesn't give me the option to use an external playback synthesizer.
I'm still testing MuseScore 4.3.0 inside my computers with Ubuntu Studio 22.04.4 LTS (64 bits Linux). I mean, I still prefer the 3.6.2 version because the outside compatibilities.
As an example: today I discovered that I cannot to use any external synthesizer to playback my scores with MuseScore 4.3.0.
With MuseScore 3.6.2 I can "command" Surge XT, Qsynth1, Calf Synthesizer and Yoshimi. But, not with the last 4.3.0.
I'm talking about to replace the internal MuseScore synthesizer when we playback any score.
I don't know if this is a bug, or is something which the team will integrate in some near future release. I don't know.
BUT... It is a shame we cannot to use this basic MIDI world characteristic.
Or... Maybe it is something related with Linux only? ???
Any idea, please, let me know.

Good luck getting a response to this, at least from anyone on the MS4 development team. They apparently feel that midi is a frill and JACK doesn't exist. My impression is that any time someone mentions Linux/midi/JACK, they stick their fingers in their ears and go "la-la-la".

I guess you mean using Jack to route to the external synths?

Only vst3's build with Juce and Windows vst's with wine+ yabridge work. (IMHO, better than nothing.)
SurgeXT works just fine. No idea about Qsynth1 and Yoshimi, but i doubt it. Calf stuff does not work - but is deprecated anyway.

Yes, you're right, I always use Jack Audio Connection Kit with anything related with audio inside my PCs.
I've read about Calf is deprecated. But, I think it's a shame, because it is an outstanding group of free plugins.
About MuseScore 3.6.2 and Jack, it works so perfect to me. The only exception is SurgeXT, because there is some "incompatibility" related with the final sounds we get from SurgeXT (there is not any in common between the internal SurgXT instruments list and the MuseScore General Midi list). But, it is a minor issue, because we can work it out manually inside SurgeXT (unfortunately, this job is channel by channel).
The great problem is with MuseScore 4.3.0 because I cannot to find any way to take some "signal" from MS to put inside the Jack MIDI path. So...
I think MS 4 definitively doesn't have any extra MIDI output.

Yep, it is what it is. As with any other software.
Options are:
-use it as-is (as you would do with any commercial software)
-ask developers to change it (idem). You can enter a feature request on github.
and since this is open source:
-fix it yourself.
